My Mother's Prayers

When I was a little boy
Momma rocked me on her knee
As she held me tight in her arms
She would say a little prayer for me

When she tucked me in each night
She kissed me tenderly
She asked the lord to keep me safe and always look over for me

My mothers prayers
She asked the lord to guide me through each storm
My mothers prayers
She prayed to keep me safe from any harm
Oh the hard times that I have found
And troubles I have seen
Surely would have been much worse
Without her prayers for me

When I was a young man running wild and free
Before my mother went to sleep
She would say a little prayer for me
She didn’t ask about what I did
Nor the company that I’d keep
But she put her faith in the lord above
To always watch over me

My mothers prayers
She asked the lord to guide me through each storm
My mothers prayers
She prayed to keep me safe from any harm
Oh the hard times that I have found
And troubles I have seen
Surely would have been much worse
Without her prayers for me

It’s a wicked world we ramble full of grief and tragedy
And I don’t where I might have been
Without her prayers for me
No crashes on the highways no trouble with the law
Angel of the lord was there to guide me through it all

Wrapped in the wings
Of an angel sent from the lord above
In answer to my mothers prayers and her endless love.
Oh the hard times that I have found
And troubles I have seen
Surely would have been much worse
Without her prayers for me

No sisters did I have but brothers I had three
And I know that she prayed for each of them
Just like she prayed for me No matter where we rambled No matter where we roamed
We knew each night our mother prayed
To bring us safely home
