I Sang The Song (John Prine)
“I Sang the Song” is written from Mac’s contemporary perspective, thinking back on a life that began in poverty and illness but that blossomed into a marvel. This album is the latest in what is now a 71-year recording career. Mac is a cherished member of bluegrass music’s first generation. He recorded classic songs with Bill Monroe, and was a member of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs first Foggy Mountain Boys combo. He traveled the world, ran a record label from Hollywood, helped found the Country Music Association, toured with Hank Williams and with Johnny Cash, and extended the folk music legacy of rural Virginia into the new century. Here, John Prine gives voice to Mac’s pride, grace, and gratitude.
