Barefoot Till After The Frost (Jim Lauderdale)
On boyhood mornings, Mac had to run the cows out from their quarters, and when they got up and moved he’d stand where they’d been laying, for warmth. “Oh, Pete, my feet would be just as red as a gobbler’s snout,” he said. I looked up “red as a gobbler’s snout,” and found it in a book of Virginia folk-sayings. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale is one of Mac’s grand admirers, and he sang “Goin’ Like Wildfire” at Mac’s 2014 Country Music Hall of Fame induction.
