Going Home
Six more miles on this old rusty railroad
I can see the lamplight shining so bright
Momma’s out on the front porch swattin’ skeeters
Me and little brother on the back porch, startin’ to fight

It’s Saturday night and momma’s out in the kitchen
She’s up to her elbows in dough
Me and little brother we’re straining close to listen
As Dad tunes in the Grand Ole Opry show

Going home going home
Lord I wish that I had never roamed
A lot of good meals have been postponed
But I can smell them now I’m going home

Whippoorwill is calling out in the white oak
Moonlight shining on the cotton leaves
Lester and Earl are singing “Why Did You Wander”
Fifteen years have passed I can’t believe

Look down yonder standing at the station
Gingham dress and apron starched so white
She’s doing all she can to keep from cryin’
But her little boy is home and everything’s alright

Going home going home
Lord I wish that I had never roamed
A lot of good meals have been postponed
But I can smell them now I’m going home

Going home going home
Lord I wish that I had never roamed
A lot of good meals have been postponed
But I can smell them now I’m going home
