Grace
9. Grace (5:31)

I’d have given him the world, like it was mine for the giving
thought that I might save his soul, bring him back to the living
Thought that I might know his truth, like it was mine for the knowing
Thought that I might heal his pain, like it was mine for the feeling

The Demons walk out of the night, straight into his waking hours
He sees their faces everywhere, trembling before their power
Because they ruled him as a child, with a tyrant’s evil will
Because they broke him and rebuilt him, and they whisper to him still

Only Grace can save a life
Only love can save a soul
If we’re able to let go of fear
And let Grace call us home

Now he drinks alone at night, with eyes bloodshot and sad
Raises his fist up to heaven, cursing all he never had
While all he could be having, he doesn’t want to have
And any joy in living just slips right through his hands

No one’s got a road map, and there are countless roads to take
Some are straight and some are winding, some are dangerous, some are safe
But one way or another, we all meet in the same place
With the shining light around us in a shower of Grace

Only Grace can save us now
Only love can save our souls
If we’re able to let go of fear
And let Grace call us home
