Biography
Jon Bostic, aka “Lumba Blackwood”, was born October 29, 1972 in Bronx, Ny. Lumba grew up most of his life in Bellwood, Illinois making a profound name for himself on the Chicago Music scene. He started rapping in 1985 and displayed an incredible freestyle, that many couldn’t match. He won many talent shows in his teens and was a member of the Sub-City Posse. A true talent moving to the surface. It was 1993 and Lumba became a part of a Chicago Underground hip hop group called Rubberoom. Rubberoom graced the stage with many prominent figures including Black Sheep, Krs-one, De La Soul, and Kool Keith. Rubberoom headlined a countless number of shows and were in demand all over the Midwest. They made a big boom across the airwaves and they were on their way to the top. In 1999 Rubberoom was signed to Indie Label 321 Records and then Subverse out of New York and the pieces of the puzzle were finally coming together. They released their first LP entitled Architechnology released in record stores nationwide. They set out on the road to do a National Tour and a few weeks later the label folded. After write-ups in Urb, The Source, XXL and Vibe…hip hop fans were left empty handed. The demise of one of the most talented groups in Chicago history. To this day…fans are waiting for a reunion. In 2006, Dj Verb writes for Groundlift Magazine:

Throughout the 90's, Chicago's underground hip-hop scene was arguably one of the country's most vibrant, and while we got some props at the time, history hasn't been as kind, often reducing the conversation about Chicago hip-hop to the rim-riding Kanye and Twista and the Gap-loving Common, leaving numerous deserving artists reliant on the attention of underground hip-hop rags and internet blogs. One group that I never felt got it's true due is a crew by the name of Rubberoom.

Lumba continued on …never giving up; but stayin true to his love for hip hop. He continued, writing and performing. Still working with his producers Opus from Rubberoom; Lumba joined them in 2005 on a journey to Japan. He recorded a single for the reknowned Dj Hide called “Chedda Check” and later filmed the video with Hide in NYC. In 2006, Lumba recorded a single entitled “Ready Bop” for Producer R.E.D.A. out of Brussels ( a long time fan of Lumba’s work)
Now, it is 2008. Lumba Blackwood is coming back stronger than ever. Lumba has completed 7 songs for his 1st solo Ep release titled “Future Shock”. His style and diligence unchanged … with a natural flow that Lumba is known for. His new Ep will be released Spring of 2008. Still underground with a politically conscious vibe, right along with some club bangers—he is sure to make his mark. Teaming up with Producing brothers Mike and Dave Herrero of Trackforce productions…this is a combination that can only be recognized. Open up your ears and listen..”Future Shock”.
