I’m eight years old and I’m racing my horse through a field
My hair’s flying back and the grin on my face can’t be real
I’m feeling invincible, like I’ve discovered heaven on earth
The next thing you know I’m lying face down in the dirt

I’m fifteen years old and working up north on the ranch
I’m out riding trails and a grizzly steps into my path
My horse whirled around and carried me down that hill in a flash
Thank heaven for horses that know how to turn on the gas

Had a horse named Houdini, could untie any knot you could make
I was out riding him and decided to swim in the lake
Put my jeans on the saddle, but I should have known
I came out of the lake he was gone and so were my clothes.

When you find someone who knows his way back to the barn
All you can do is drop the reins and let him carry you home

My quarter horse has seen more things than any horse should
And I had a date with a man who was up to no good
So that very morning he threw me and I broke my leg
