The bluegrass studio ensemble Lord of the Strings has returned with a fresh single, highlighting the skills of its members Tony Wray, Tim Crouch, Dennis Parker and newest addition Matt Leadbetter. In their latest recording, they evoke the spirit of Flatt & Scruggs with a remake of "Doin' My Time."
“‘Doin’ My Time’ is a great tune, not just talking about being in jail and breaking rocks all day, but it’s a story all of us could put ourselves in as far as certain times in our lives as to when we’ve felt stuck,” says Tony Wray.
The trio of musicians has enjoyed a long-standing friendship and often collaborates in the studio. Their latest endeavor focuses solely on creating new studio material, as Tony Wray is currently touring with Dale Ann Bradley and The Dillards, Dennis Parker plays with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and Tim Crouch works as a full-time session musician. The group is also excited to announce the addition of dobro extraordinaire Matt Leadbetter, who is also a member of the Dale Ann Bradley Band.Despite their busy schedules, they will reunite for future recordings, aiming to build on the magic they've crafted together over the years. Lord of the Strings plans to bring even more exciting developments in the near future.
The new single features Tony Wray on lead vocals, bringing his unique voice to the forefront. This tune, penned by Jimmy Skinner, has been a cherished bluegrass staple for years. Lord of the Strings is breathing new life into it, blending tradition with a fresh, modern approach for 2024. This latest release serves as a follow-up to the group’s previous single, “Stone By Stone,” which garnered widespread acclaim. "Stone By Stone" became a mainstay on bluegrass radio, securing extensive airplay across terrestrial, internet, and satellite platforms. With this new track, Lord of the Strings continues to honor the rich bluegrass tradition while pushing the genre forward, demonstrating their commitment to both preserving and innovating within the musical style they love.
Stay tuned, as the musicians have an array of surprises planned for the rest of 2024 and beyond! Their creative journey is far from over, and they are gearing up to deliver more exciting projects, collaborations, and performances.
