Biography
-2013-
“I heard about Little G Weevil winning the 2013 solo/duo IBC so I was not surprised that his recording revealed very deep Blues. He somehow delivers intact the spirit and sound of Blues legends from 80 years ago. Then at our VizzTone showcase in May, jamming with him onstage showed his mastery of Blues in the moment and band-leading ability. A new Blues Star is here, he proves it.” – Bob Margolin
Little G Weevil is truly an international Bluesman. Growing up in the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary, at a time when the changing political landscape brought the Blues flooding into Eastern Europe, he fell in love with the American Blues records of John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, and more, and soon became a successful Blues musician in his own country. G felt the call of the American South, and emigrated to the US, landing in Alabama before spending a year washing dishes and playing on the streets of Memphis, where he continued to absorb the local music and form his own distinctive style, a mix of the Blues music of many regions of the Southern US. After living for a time in London, G now makes his home in Atlanta, Georgia.
Little G Weevil’s two previous releases have already brought him international acclaim:
“Weevil evidences a strong-willed musical intelligence and the individuality to make his autobiographical tunes easy to like.”
– Downbeat
“Little G Weevil is right on the money.”
– Blurt Magazine
“This is vibrant music from a passionate musician at the height of his creativity. A deep Blues immersion.”
– Blues In London, GB
“Little G Weevil is an amazing guitar player, a singer and a songwriter. He moves from Hooker to R. L. Burnside to Chuck Berry and old school Mississippi Delta without without breaking stride at all.”
- – Elwood Blues, aka Dan Aykroyd, House of Blues Radio Hour
Little G Weevil performs deep Blues in acoustic and electric settings, but recorded in the wake of his recent first-place victory as a solo performer in the 2013 International Blues Challenge, MOVING is a beautifully ambient, largely solo, acoustic Blues album. Says Weevil, “This time I’m focusing on my acoustic works that I have been asked to cut numerous times the past years. There are solo and band numbers just like on my previous releases with a little difference. No amps! I selected 12 songs, all my originals except “Let`s Talk It Over” which is a beautiful, old traditional. I`m very excited about this project. It gives me chance to play deep, raw Blues in very intimate settings.”
