This sixth song in the Sam Davis cycle celebrates Sam’s journey. Sam is said to have claimed that he’d live for a thousand years before disappearing from Mount Judea Arkansas. In this song his claim is made more figurative than literal. Our Sam is confident that his story will live on. I love the idea that Sam arrived at a point of satisfaction in his life. To him, this involved some fame and renown and that made his struggle worthwhile. This song features a chorus of many who helped complete this project along with many of their spouses and children. To me, the meaning of the project as a whole is work of survival as a family. I’m grateful to the people and the families that gave time to see this become a reality.
