This fourth song in the Sam Davis cycle is a break from all the heaviness of the third. The townspeople ridicule Sam and speculate on his motives, his sanity and his fate if he continues his preaching from the bluff. They’re also defending their own sense of morality while admitting that one of them might eventually shoot poor Sam. We sang our parts gathered around a microphone like a bluegrass band and had a blast doing it. Nathan Agdeppa from Branson’s Baldnobbers provided the witty commentary on fiddle, and Ihe really makes the song shine.
