This song is the first in three songs about the journey of the Martin family. Henri Martain immigrated from France to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia and settled with the Cherokee. He married into the tribe, began a family and built a home and a farm. All of this labor was lost when the US Government evicted and relocated the Cherokee. The Martain family joined the banished Cherokee on The Trail of Tears.
