My daughter Grae and I wrote this song together on a drive to South Carolina. We’d been to Sam’s throne together many times and had both paid a lot of attention to the landmarks along the way. I love the tradition of giving directions and the way that those directions are littered with little bits of narrative. It felt like the right way to begin this album, especially since I’m a neighbor, not a resident of Newton County Arkansas. Grae joins me on vocals on this song.
