The Waltz (4:28)
THE WALTZ

In a bar in Las Cruces, all alone at a table, just the music, the whiskey and I
I was there approached, by a man and a lady, that I’d been watchin’ two steppin’ by
He said, “I cannot waltz and by my wife it is favored, would you be so kind as to give her a whirl”
I said “Sir I’d be honored, to dance with your lady, for she is a beautiful girl”

She fell right into my arms as I held her, and we danced to The Last Cheater’s Waltz
With each step in place and with her warm embrace, in a moment my senses were lost
Then she pulled me near speaking soft in my ear, “I, could dance with you all night”
“But with knowing I can’t, would you please ask the band, to play us at least one more waltz”

So play the Tennessee Waltz, or maybe Waltz Across Texas, anything, in three, quarter time
So I might again, have the chance to imagine, how it would be if she could be mine
Even though I know that once the dance has ended, I’ll never get her out of my mind
She waltzed right in to my heart in a minute, then two stepped right out of my life

In a bar in Las Cruces, all alone at a table, just the music, the whiskey and I
I see him hold her, in a way I remember, as I watch them go two steppin’ by
As long as I live I know I’ll not forget, The Waltz, the music, the night
She waltzed right in to my heart in a minute, then, two stepped right out of my life
