(Spoken)
Well, we got into the car and drove down to Jasper County , Indiana . Goin' to see my Granma and Granpa.
'Cept the trip this time wasn't like it used to be, Dad wasn't crackin' any jokes, and I think Mom was crying' and they both kept talking 'bout something called dying.
When we got to the farm, There was Granman on the porch. She had this black dress on,
I ran right past her into the house, Lookin' for my Granpa.
I ran through the house and out into the yard,
Through the garden, and back to Granma
on the front porch.
'Cuz I couldn't find Granpa anywhere.
And I said to her...
(Chorus)
Granma, where has granpa gone?
I can't find him anywhere.
I'm about to cry, what's it mean to die?
Granman, where has granpa gone?
Well, we all got back into the car with Granma,
And went down to this building in town.
All the relatives were there, my aunts and uncles, and cousin Bobby and Little Joey.
And there was Granpa.
They had him laying in this box, and he
wasn't smiling like he usually did.
I ran back to Granma and buried myself in
her dress, and I said to her...
(Repeat the chorus)
Well, she said, "Sonny, Granpa;s gone to be with the Lord.
You see, one day when he was a boy your age,
He asked Jesus to come into his heart.
And if you'll do that, too,
Someday you'll go to Heaven and be with
Granpa and Jesus and Granma, too.
(Hum chorus)
