V 1:
I fell in with the wrong crowd, I even said out loud
I’ll do just as I please
Wild parties and drinkin’, the wrong way of thinkin’
Had me lost as a ball in high weeds
V 2:
Till an old country preacher, with hard mountain features
Changed my mind, when he said to me
Shed that old coat of sin, let the Savior come in
You’re lost as a ball in high weeds
Chorus:
He preached fire and brimstone, with a passion unmatched
In any man I’ve ever known
He spook of God’s plan of Salvation
And a beautiful heavenly home
He said if you die tonight, do you know where you’re goin’?
Do you know where that other road leads
Son if you ain’t got Jesus, fall down on your knees
You’re lost… you’re lost…. you’re lost
You’re lost as a ball in high weeds
Bridge:
Then he said I can’t save you but I know who can
It’s easy, if you’ll just believe
He’s reachin’ down for you, just take his hand
You’re lost…. you’re lost…. you’re lost
You’re lost as a ball in high weeds
Repeat Chorus:
This one was written from a line an old preacher friend of my family [Kay Thompson, Jr or Kay Jr as we all called him], nearly always used when he was giving altar call at the close of service. He’d say in his great mountain voice, “If you’re in here tonight & you ain’t got Jesus, well…. you’re just as lost as a ball in high weeds”. This is another song that my fans were forever asking me if I had it on an all gospel CD, and that’s the reason I decided to make a new recording of it here. It first appeared on a CD titled “Songs from the Workbench” circa 2003.
