Lightning
Well the stories told many moons ago how he used to run shine
Without headlights in the dead of night by the moonlight of the pines
In a V8 Ford blacked out and bored according to the law
That’s the joke cause dust and smoke were all they ever saw

His uncle Bill had a moonshine still somewhere underground
That what they say and till this that still ain’t been found
And together they hoed 10 acres of corn but they never sold an ear
Every fall they’d picked it all and it’s somehow disappear

Some folks called him lightning
I just called him Dad
Most famous outlaw this dry county ever had

Well one night in June with a bright full moon he was making good time
He stopped in the dew drop inn out on the county line
That waitress there had long dark hair and serious green eyes
The moonshine man had a different plan before the new sunrise

A lot of laughs and tears in 20 years but their both doing well
She was called to teach he was called to preach to save us all from hell
It’s kind of strange how life can change with one wink of an eye
When it comes to love that’s what it does when it’s stronger than moonshine

Some folks called him lightning
I just called him Dad
Most famous outlaw this dry county ever had
