Kody Norris first discovered “Ole Carolina” when he was about 12 years old. His newfound love of bluegrass music would often find the youngster pillaging around in antique shops and flea markets in search of records, cassettes, and song books.
“On a trip with my Dad, we happened by an antique shop in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, but I was disappointed not to find any records,” Kody says. “We decided to leave, but as we headed toward the door, I passed a display with the only 33rpm record in the store - The Bluegrass Tarheels,
Tarheel Country.” Kody purchased the record for $1.75 and couldn’t wait to get home to hear the contents.
“It was really late when we got home, but I couldn’t wait to give my new record a quick listen,” Kody says. “That quick listen lasted about 4 hours. I listened over and over and discovered one of the prettiest bluegrass songs I’d ever heard: ‘Ole Carolina.’”
Kody taught himself the song and kept it in the back of his mind for years. Wife Mary Rachel urged him to record the song for several years, and the couple is now happy to include it on their debut Rebel Records project.
“I’m glad I waited to put it on this album as I feel it exemplifies what a great song is really about,” Kody says.
“Ole Carolina” is the second release from The Kody Norris Show’s forthcoming Rebel Records debut,
All Suited Up. Their first single release
“Love Bug” has been a hit with radio listeners!
