“Cherokee” – The trail of tears is one of the more tragic stories in American History. My wife is half Cherokee and I experience that heritage with her. My late Father took me to Indian Guides as a child on Tuesday nights. The name I was given was “Rising Sun”, which I used in the song.

My Name is Rising Sun
A Proud Native American
First Son of a Cherokee Chieftan

I learned to respect the land
I learned about peace from a medicine man
I learned to fight with lightning in my hand

And Courage like the hawk flyin’ with the breeze
The Cherokee will fight to be free

Pride, Pride, Cherokee Pride The Warrior Fights/ The Warrior Dies
Great Spirit right by my side
We share the pipe and pray for peace Love each other and live to be free
Cherokee your a part of me

Before you judge me for my skin,
walk a mile in my Moccasins
walk a mile in my Moccasins

I’ll sing my death song, when it’s time to go
And die like a hero going home
die like I’m goin’ home

Pride, Pride, Cherokee Pride The Warrior Fights/ The Warrior Dies
Great Spirit right by my side
We share the pipe and pray for peace Love each other and live to be free
Cherokee your a part of me
