The River
I said goodbye to my mama
I said farewell to my pa
I turned my back on a lady
Hell ,I turned my back on you all

I went down to the city, and I drank in all of her light
I let her crawl in and eat me, I did not put up a fight
We took them for all that they offered, All that they offered and more
They got from us what they wanted, no need to show us the door

I went down to the river and followed it down to the sea
I said hello to the ocean, that ocean said goodbye to me

Regrets though I may have plenty, and plenty go shifting the blame
Still it was I picked my pony, again and I'd do just the same
I’ve spent evenings some men would die for, spent some evenings wanting to die
I’ve had my days of glory, and I’ve had days of just getting by

I filled my mind up with notions of things that could never be
I dreamed as big as the ocean, that ocean just swallowed me
