Earthy songstress releases 2nd full-length, “Chance For Rain”
Joselyn Wilkinson, an L.A. based singer/songwriter and percussionist has been making waves across the United States with her soulful and uplifting songs. She found her voice by merging her background in poetry and theatre with her appreciation for West African percussion and influences like Bob Marley, Laura Nyro and Stevie Wonder to create a sound that humbly seeks to promote truth and hope while thoroughly entertaining audiences.
Her new album, “Chance for Rain”, was inspired by Joselyn’s journey from her childhood home of Montana where natural beauty, art and social action defined her soul. These were the same elements that led her to study at UCLA and spend a year in Ghana, West Africa, researching cultures and their relationship with music and percussion. Upon her return, Joselyn formed ADAAWE, 7 women of the voice and drum. With ADAAWE, Joselyn toured the U.S. and opened for such artists as James Brown, Mickey Hart and Spearhead.
Joselyn’s first defined herself as a solo artist with her 2005 debut record, “ShapeShifting”, which was met with strong reviews and radio airplay. After completing successful tours with her band Wild Roots, it was not long before Joselyn was in the studio once again developing the organic sound of her second full-length album, “Chance for Rain”.
A stellar band beautifully executes “Chance For Rain’s” intimate and passionate songs; including drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers), bassist Itai Disraeli (Lili Haydn) and horn man David Ralicke (Beck). They draw inspiration from the best singer-songwriters of the '70's, with a strong contemporary delivery. Joselyn is a dynamic live performer, connecting effortlessly with her audience with honest emotion in her sweet alto - an exceptional artist who has found her voice.
