Jon Shain - Jersey Barriers
I drove down to the drugstore - lookin’ for I don’t know what
An antidote for my wanderlust - - something to break this old rut
Restless soul syndrome - they don’t sell nothin’ for that
Take the rat - out of the race but you'll never take the race out of the rat
Out of the rat – Just ask the cat

Rollin’ down the lane
Tryin’ to hang on to a fleeting train
White-knuckled like a trucker in the rain
Oh, there ain’t no Jersey Barriers around this path of mine

I drove down to the temple - to deposit the wages of my sin
They had a long-haired receptionist - - I didn’t know where to begin
Maybe a low-interest credit line - then a voice from a desk on high
Asked me to verify my identity but I never knew just how or why
How or why - How one might even try… when they’re

Rollin’ down the lane
Tryin’ to hang on to a fleeting train
White-knuckled like a trucker in the rain
There ain’t no Jersey barriers around this path of mine

Jesus keep my eyes upon the road
Throw me out a line that I can hold onto
When the pressure pot explodes

I drove down to the tavern - to find my kindred drinking souls
They were talking up a storm - - talkin’ about life’s incessant tolls
I came in there to get out of the rain - Just for one to heed the call
I put away my rusty umbrella - it’s only weather, after all
After all - I guess when you give up tryin’, life’s a ball

Rollin’ down the lane
Tryin’ to hang on to a fleeting train
‘Course I really got no reason to complain
Hell, there ain’t no Jersey barriers around this path of mine
