06 Lady Day and John Coltrane (Phillip-Michael Scales on voc)
(Gil Scott-Heron) (3:58)
Featuring: Phillip Michael-Scales (vocals) Michael Caskey (drums)
Young Chicago singer-songwriter Phillip Michael Scales (now living in Nashville) contributes a fine revival of Gil Scott-Heron's "Lady Day and John Coltrane." Although he initially resisted following the lead of his legendary uncle B.B. King, Scales has lately been incorporating more blues into his approach, and the result speaks for itself. And let's not forget; Gil was a street poet and rap forerunner, but he was also a Chicagoan who called himself a "Bluesologist." - Bill Dahl, liner notes
