Thirstier World
Little birds sing for love
Geese and eagles move through
Last night the moon above
Called to coyotes so blue
Every spring is a victory
When the winters are this cold
At this point there’s a history
Keeps you from growing too old
The river will rise
And the river may flood
More day in your eyes
More night in your blood
Ash Wednesday last
They plowed the snow off the tracks
I took it as a sign
That spring could really come back
Need a thirstier wind
To take the rest of the snow
We don’t need to look in
To feel what we know
Every spring is a victory
When the winters are this long
At this point there’s a mystery
Where it went wrong
The river will rise
And the river may flood
More day in your eyes
More night in your blood
