Cotati Polka
11. Cotati Polka 3:39 (Keys of D, F)
Jim Boggio, accordionist extraordinaire,
came to my studio in 1995 to contribute to
my album The Vultures. Jim died just a few
years later, leaving an enormous void. He was
a principal founder of the Cotati Accordion
Festival in northern California, and a source
of boundless enthusiasm and happiness. A
gifted musician, Jim was able and happy to
play traditional Italian polkas and mazurkas
on his accordion, or post-modern jazz on the
Hammond organ while touring with Richie
Cole. I struggled with a name for this tune,
and after mixing early versions and working
with Jeff Taylor’s great accordion tracks, I
decided to name it for the town where Jim’s
festival took shape and still runs.
