8. San Antonio 3:09 (Key of D)

This tune reflects my take on the beautiful Texas dance-fiddle
connection. Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys wrote a huge
chapter in this long book, which contains contributions from
many traditions. Local residents Phil and Jake Hancock drove
me out to Wills’ old ranch home near Turkey, Texas, in the Land
between the Rivers. There I played Wills’ “Faded Love” and
“Maiden’s Prayer,” as well as my own “Fort Wayne” and “San Antonio.”
We listened as the soft fiddle strains filled that old house
and mixed with the bird songs and west Texas breezes sighing
in the trees above us. Thanks, guys.
