Song 2: Mamou Britches (Key of G)
The town of Mamou has long been a hotbed
of Cajun fiddling. “Leather Breeches”
is one of my favorite old-time fiddle tunes.
I twisted its harmony around and came
up with this reel that gives way to a polka.
It catches a bit of southern fiddle roots
and northern polka, and Jeff Taylor helps
dissolve the Mason-Dixon line with his accordion.
David Grier’s wonderful guitar solo was
one complete, unedited performance.
