We all drew straws this morning at the bunkhouse, Just my luck to pick the shortest one
So I’m up in the saddle riding fenceline, While everybody heads down to town
Keep in mind when riding in a snowstorm, turn back when snow sticks to your horse’s mane
If you don’t head for home when it starts sticking, you might not make it back to ride again
WIND RIVER CHRISTMAS EVE
PRAYERS FOR THE LONESOME LOST AND LAME
WIND RIVER CHRISTMAS EVE
SOME WHO RIDE OUT WON’T RIDE BACK THE SAME
Pushin’ through the drifts up on the Front Range, listening to the ice crust crack and ring
Found a little car stuck in a snowbank, if not for me she’da still been there come Spring
You get lots of time to talk , riding double, truth to tell there’s not much more to do
She’d left nothing on her back trail but some trouble; I’d left my share of trouble back there too
CHORUS
Here’s wishing you a simple Cowboy Christmas, May the magic of your season still unfold
May you have the heart to reach out to the helpless, and the strength to bring them safe in from the cold
CHORUS
