Travelin' Light emphasizes the thoughtful and spiritual side of Jason Matthews' songwriting.
"My wife's mother was diagnosed with cancer on March 20th, 2005. For the next year, we watched her lose her hair, her breath, and eventually her life, but never her sense of humor or indomitable spirit. I felt so helpless and wanted so badly to do something for this woman who had done so much for me. But the only thing I could do was write this song, "
Travelin' Light". I hope you find comfort in it the way I have. I believe that when we die and our bodies go back to the dust from which they came, we become what we've really been all along; Travelin' Light. For Mrs. Beverley Jean Chapman (1942-2006)
Jon Mabe and Jim McCormick, thank you for being my brothers in song, for using your great talents to help me say what had to be said. Thank you Dean0, Mack, Dave, Paul and everyone else at WKML for not only playing this song first, but for your endless support, your passion, your knowledge, and, of course, your barbeque!
Bart Busch, you are brilliant. Thanks for the endless hours you've put in for me/with me over the past six years. You're the best engineer in town. You make me better and I can't imagine making music without you, buddy.
To my band, you are the best players in the known universe and definitely on Planet Nashville. Billy Panda, you are the quintessential band leader. Thank you for translating what I hear in my head.
Max Hutchinson, my friend and business partner, you keep the wheels turning, making sure the important things get done. I am grateful for your fanatical belief and your painstaking work, and your "no worries, man" when I take all of this way too seriously.
Debbie Matthews, my wife, and partner in rhyme. You've been here with me from the very beginning. Even when I lost my faith, you never did. Without you, I wouldn't have much of a life. I love you. I'd like to thank my mom for everything from my first guitar to our last goodbye and everything in between. I wouldn't be here without you.
Thanks to Pat Higdon, Kent Earls, and the rest of the incredible staff at UMPG. It's been a privilege to work with people who still believe that the word "music" is more important than the word "business".
Thank you God for this talent you chose to give me. I pray every day that these songs that I create honor You, the Creator of All. To everyone who ever paid hard-earned money for one of my CDs or to see one of my shows, or called a radio station to request one of my songs, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. You are the reason I do what I do. If my songs have touched your life in some small way, I am truly grateful."
