Corvettes And Blondes
Corvettes And Blondes
(Jason Matthews/Luke Bryan/Kerry Kurt Phillips)

Daddy went out for smokes and never came back
Mama took on two jobs to take up the slack
And I took off through town on my mountain bike
Searching for answers and the meaning of life

Well, I found nirvana behind the Moose Lodge
A grease pit of wisdom, J.W.'s Garage
There were hot rods and posters of girls with not too much on
That was my first exposure to corvettes and blondes

I swept the floor for peanuts and Cokes
And a milk crate to listen to the stories he told
He could fix the break of day and weld the crack of dawn
And was a world-renowned expert on Corvettes and blondes

He’d tell me, “Boy, you’re a lost ball in a field of high weeds”
“You go to bed with the dogs, son, and you’ll wake up with fleas
I’ve had caviar and Cuban cigars and Dom Perignon
But, boy, the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes”
Yeah, the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes

He had a tattoo of Marilyn on top of his heart
And a ’66 Stingray he’d turn loose after dark
He said the only thing that got him through two tours in ‘Nam
Was the thought of getting back home to Corvettes and blondes

He’d tell me, “It ain’t the size of the dog in the fight
It’s the size of the fight in the dog, get it right”
He hated Porsche with a passion and he loved Goldie Hawn
And said the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes
Yeah, the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes

Well, my mama called me when J.W. died
And I hurried back home to tell him goodbye
Well, that funeral procession would have tickled ol' John
It was three miles of nothing but Corvettes and blondes

He’d say, “I pray I go out in flames, needle buried in the red
I’ll be a half hour in Heaven before the Devil knows I’m dead”
He was like a daddy to me that’s why I’m so fond
Of greasy garages and Corvettes and blondes
Yeah, the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes
Yeah, the best things in life are Corvettes and blondes
