Money In My Mattress
MONEY IN MY MATTRESS
(Jason Matthews/Lisa Carver)

We used to laugh at old Aunt Grace
Canning her savings in them bell jars
She diversified, outside
A little here, a little there in the backyard
Now they're shutting down the savings and loan
And chaining up the front door
And my old Aunt Grace don't seem that crazy anymore

Chorus:
I'm putting my money in my mattress
Investin' in a shotgun
Some triple ought buck, and a mean old mutt
Nobody's gonna outrun
I've worked too hard to let some banker
Go and gamble away what's mine
So I'm sockin' it away in a real safe place
Where I can keep an eye on it
And they can't get their hands on it
So I can sleep more and worry less
I'm puttin' my money, puttin' my money in my mattress

I used to think that I was in good hands
'Til Bernie Madoff with 50 billion
And my IRA went straight down the toilet
'Cause somebody rigged the system
But they ain't gonna catch me again
With my guard let down
They've gotten all they're gettin'
From here on out

Repeat chorus

3rd Chorus:
I've worked too hard to let some banker
Go and gamble away what's mine
So I'm sockin' it away in a real safe place
Where I can keep an eye on it
And they can't get their hands on it
So I can sleep more and worry less
And it don't matter how bad it gets
I''m gonna cover my assets
I'm puttin' my money, puttin' my money in my mattress
I'm puttin' my money in my mattress
