James Price was a fiddler who played Bluegrass in more of an old-time style. He is best known for his eight-year tenure with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys from 1995-2003. James also toured with Little Jimmy Dickens and Johnny Paycheck. Prior to his years with Ralph Stanley, he worked with the Goins Brothers. James’ playing is likened to the style of his predecessors in the Clinch Mountain Boys, Curly Ray Cline and Art Stamper. His fiddling is featured on five Ralph Stanley albums recorded on the Rebel label (
Short Life Of Trouble, My All And All, Clinch Mountain Country, While The Ages Roll On and
Clinch Mountain Sweethearts).
Fiddlin’ The Old-Time Way is one of three solo albums that James recorded. Sadly, James passed away in May of 2022 at the age of 57.
