Wintertime Blues
Johnny Kay (Singer/songwriter) was around when Rock ‘n’ Roll began and was a part of the beginnings. John played lead guitar and composed and sang song for Bill Haley & the Comets of Rock Around the Clock fame (1960-72). John is still playing, singing and composing today. Just Playin… The Blues is a compilation of original blues tunes that take him back to his magical past.
“I suppose that I was entering my teenage years at a very unique time in the history of popular music. I was born and raised in Chester PA, and at that time there was no Rock & Roll, R&B, or Country Music as we now know it today. Black music was called "Race Music" by us white folks, Country Music was labeled "Hillbilly" and the music on the airways was called "Pop". I lived in a city that was a true melting pot of musical sounds. A couple of blocks north of my home was the black neighborhood where I could stand outside a local bar and hear black musicians wail blues throughout the evening. I would sit on the curb and listen to these wonderful sounds for hours. I fell in love with this emotional music, and when Rock & Roll became popular in 1954, I heard those "Blues Sounds” incorporated within it. So now I have written some original blues tunes that take me back to my magical past. Yes, and now I'm... Just Playin' the Blues. I hope that you dig these tunes!”
