Last Time It Rained
The Last Time it Rained

She sat on her front porch on a late summer’s evening,
Thinking of sunshine but wishing for rain.
The pain that it caused her and all of his pleading
Couldn’t convince her to ask him to stay.

Now the trailer’s for sale and so is the pick-up,
She’ll be glad to see both of them gone.
They’re just reminders of time that she’s wasted,
A time that lasted to long.

The last time it rained was the first of July,
Now it’s the 10th of September.
The sun that was burning that late August sky
Is something she will always remember’
Something she’ll never forget.

Attitudes change as we live through the seasons,
Sometimes it’s windy and cold.
This time it’s different, she’s numb to her feelings
Numb to a love that’s grown cold.

She’s packed all her things, she’s leaving tomorrow,
Moving in with some people she knows.
She’ll get on her feet and move back to Virginia,
And forget about the Ohio.
