Raye Zaragoza - Garden
11. Garden - Most of this record was written while I was 29. The same year I got engaged, and the same year my engagement fell apart. I used to tell myself that I had to be married and have kids by 33, but this break up taught me that having harsh rules and expectations for yourself can cloud your judgment and sometimes lead you down dark paths. I grew up in a studio apartment in New York City with my big family, and told myself that when I grew up - I wouldn’t be happy until I lived in a house - with a backyard, multiple rooms, a mailbox, a skylight, and a garden. Turning 30 for me is all about leaving these materialistic milestones behind me and living in the richness of today - following my intuition rather than my expectations.
