8. Sweetheart - I turned 30 two days after the masters of this record were finished, and wrote most of the songs at the age of 29. Throughout this year, I was grappling with a lot of thoughts about my expectations of myself as a woman turning 30. I was unconsciously operating in old stories like - “I need to be engaged by 30 or I will never find love” or “I can only be an artist until 30 and then I need to focus on starting a family.” At 29, I realized that these old stories were running my life and my decisions, and I needed to break free from them. “Sweetheart” is about the pressures put on women to be the perfect partner, perfect businesswoman, and perfect caretaker all at once. Expectations that I’ve chosen to release. Sometimes it’s just too much pressure to try to be everyone’s “sweetheart.”
