3. Strong Woman - I originally wrote this song as a commission for a friend’s daughter for her birthday. He sent me a long email with details about his daughter - and I immediately thought she was so cool by reading everything he had to say about her. I immediately knew that we’d be buds if we met. I knew I wanted to write a “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall-esque song about the admiration of another woman’s way of showing up in the world. It’s a point of view that I think we don’t have enough songs from. So often songs are about admiring lovers or even family members - but how often are there songs written about the admiration of a fellow woman - especially in a society where women are so often pitted against each other. I had the pleasure of meeting Lily, and immediately knew she was the embodiment of “Strong Woman.”
