Notes From Harry Orlove

I can't tell you how happy I was having my Daughter in the studio singing with me. Evangelina is a relatively obscure Hoyt Axton song. I learned it from the guy who plays bass on this record, the singular David Jackson. He played piano and bass with Hoyt for a lot of years. We used to have a musician's camp out every summer at a campground in Ventura County CA, and we would take over half of the campground, probably 40 musicians and their families, for two weeks. One night around the campfire David sang this song. This would have been 1988-ish. The song has been haunting me for ever since. I know Hoyt recorded it, although you almost never hear it. The only other person I know that does it regularly is Albert Lee. He might have put it on a record, but I'm not sure. He always plays it on piano.
