From Brian Wilson, possibly the greatest melody writer of all time. Originally, it was done as a 12/8 shuffle. Danny Gatton recorded it on slide guitar, a beautiful version. Might be lap steel. But yeah, if a song is a shuffle, I'll make it straight or vice versa. Or if a song is in 3/4, I'll put it in 4/4. It's just a way of giving a song a fresh approach. I think it lays beautifully as straight 8ths rather than the shuffle feel. It brings out the lushness and melancholy of the tune. I wanted my dear friend, Jay Dee Maness to be on the record. What he played is simple, but it's brilliant. All humility aside, I think the guitar playing on that cut is amongst my favorites. I think I really captured something emotionally.
