After composing, arranging, performing and recording part time for 27 years, my chance to do it full time arrived about 17 years ago. I formed my band "GEQ," Guymon Ensley Quintet (a classic jazz ensemble) in 2001. Since then, we've recorded a collection of classic pieces that were written and recorded by the jazz legends, as well as my original compositions. The band has toured and received acclaim from worldwide audiences.

Those same musicians in my band have also recorded tracks on many of my solo projects as well. Those projects include works across genre lines. Jazz of contemporary and "smooth" styles, and R&B make my catalog of original compositions.

Songwriting has become my favorite facet on this diamond called "musicianship." From seventeenth century Baroque, to Classic "straight ahead" jazz, there's something about each that makes each of them my favorite.
