Airplane Ride
You know I nearly missed my flight
I’ve been chasing my dreams and the morning light
It’s been Boston, Seattle, to Phoenix and now back home.
And though it’s true that by the end of the day
I’m just glad for the chance to be making my way
To the middle
When I’m rushing around with everyone else
I meet the eyes of a stranger and I see myself
We’re all tired and sore holding the weight of the world
All alone.
I settle down in my window seat
I let my time in the sky be my time to retreat
And turn my thoughts loose into the night.
[chorus]
All the lights of the city
Scattered below, like a galaxy
And I wish I could fly down and say
Everything will be okay
Every town of the nation
A unique constellation
Each home is it’s own little star
And I wish I could tell them how pretty they are.
Now it’s down, down, down to the tarmak we go
So many troubles impatiently waiting below
For their people.
We all silently curse the taxying line
As though an airplane ride is such a waste of our time
We’ve got places to be, we’ve got things that we need to get done!
I put on my thinking cap
If there’s an answer to this I think I know where it’s at
I turn to my neighbor and say, “I hope you have a good life!”
