Gaye Adegbalola is widely known as and the founding member of Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women (1984 - 2009) who recorded exclusively for Alligator Records. A political activist and outspoken feminist, she has been a successful solo artist for decades. “SATISFIED,” her anthology, includes selections from nine of her solo projects. Songs range from classic blues of the 1920’s to biting, humorous present-day commentary.
Some songs are fan favorites like “Big Ovaries, Baby.” Some are Gaye’s favorites like Ma Rainey’s “Jelly Bean Blues.” Some are historically significant like “Winona” written for Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer; several have her trademark humor; and, there is, perhaps, a new “wedding song.” This anthology even includes two songs from her children’s CD that won the Parents’ Choice Gold Award for music. Of the 20 selections, 15 are Gaye originals (lyrics and music).
Gaye says that “SATISFIED” is a composite of her life’s work and is dedicated to those classic blues women who birthed her!
