Above a murky crisscross of drones, the hurdy-gurdy pronounces a stately offering of Cliff Stapleton’s popular scottish. As the guitar, cajón, and flute layer in, the drones are gathered up hypnotically into the rhythm. In Sansonnette, the hypnotic texture and the tune’s repetitive qualities create an impression of slow, thick whirling.
