Mavis Staples - There’s A Devil On The Loose
Burns, BMG Bumblebee obo Brenda Burns Music, BMI
With one of the most soulful, identifiable voices in the world, Mavis Staples has a heritage of years of singing gospel, spiritual and message music with her family band, The Staple Singers. They sang first in church, then on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement, and then on the radio as one of Stax Records’ best-loved groups. After the death of her father and mentor, Staple Singers founder Pops Staples, in 2000, Mavis had decided on retirement. But after 9/11 she and producer Jim Tullio got together to record a timely and uplifting song, In Times Like These, and the project grew into a full album. Released in 2004, Have A Little Faith won massive media attention and brought Mavis back onto stages nationwide. Her career has been thriving ever since.
