For 25 years, the Dallas-based team of pyrotechnic guitarist Smokin’ Joe Kubek and vocalist/lyricist/guitarist Bnois King created original, rocking Texas roadhouse blues. They cut 17 albums (two for Alligator) featuring Joe’s searing fretwork and Bnois’ storytelling lyrics, conversational vocals and jazzy, chordal guitar playing. GuitarOne called them “potent, undiluted 100-proof Texas blues honed to a razor’s edge.” True road dogs, they toured constantly, playing thousands of gigs across the country, right up until Joe’s death in North Carolina at the age of 58, moments before he was to go onstage.
