Fenton Robinson - Somebody Loan Me A Dime
Robinson, Eyeball Music, BMI

A musically sophisticated, melodic guitarist with a beautiful, soaring voice, Fenton was as “uptown” as Hound Dog was “down home.” Fenton had a long recording career down South and in Chicago, cutting singles for various labels, and one previous album (where the producer made the incomprehensible decision to not let him play guitar). With his Alligator debut, he finally was able to display the depth of his subtle, nuanced, jazz-inflected blues. Somebody Loan Me A Dime, his best-known original song, had first been cut for a small Chicago label, but for our version he showed more of his spectacular guitar talent. A quiet, reserved, intellectual man, Fenton never received the recognition he deserved.
