Ernie was very close to Rev. Davis. When Ernie first got married, Davis taught him this venerable hymn as a wedding gift. Ernie recently published three volumes of Rev. Davis’s arrangements, respectively of Gospel songs, Popular numbers of his day and Blues numbers. John Roberts did the transcriptions and Bill Ellis provided historical notes, but these were songs Davis knew that he mostly didn’t record. Rev. Davis knew a lot of different stuff.
