Dave van Ronk tells this story: he and Davis and another guy were on their way to a gig upstate somewhere. Davis was in the back, and the other guy was driving. Davis had his guitar out the whole way, and played “Candy Man” over and over and over again. Ronk ignored it for a while, but it got to him, so he turned around and started to say “For cryin’ out loud, Gary, can you play something else?!” which startled Davis awake... Ronk is backed up here by Eric Frandsen on guitar, and by twenty or thirty of his closest musical friends in the chorus. A moving version of one of the Rev’s most moving songs.
