Ian Buchanin with the Otis Brothers

Ian Buchanin took lessons from Rev. Davis during his adolescent years. He also loved Old Time Music, did a lot of Jimmy Rogers songs, and earned a place in Rev. Davis’s estimation as a mature player. One thing he is generally remembered for is a Davis-esque version of Jelly Roll Morton’s “Winin’ Boy’’ on the original Elektra Blues Project album back in the early sixties. He got bad hurt and ended up confined to a wheelchair, but his lifelong buddy Marty Brennan never abandoned him. They and a couple of other friends recorded “Whatever Happened To Ian Buchanin,” a limited issue. Pat Conte and Bob Guida (The Otis Brothers) would come over and record periodically. Ian is one of those who died before realizing much of his potential. I never met the man, but I very much admired him.
