"Freddy Powers is my close friend, probably my closest in the music business. He's my buddy, and we wrote a lot of songs together. He's a great rhythm guitar player and he knows a million songs."
~ MERLE HAGGARD
Freddy Powers was born in Duncan, Oklahoma and raised in Seminole, Texas. He has received numerous BMI and CMA Awards including CMA's Triple Play Award for writing three number one songs in a twelve month period. Freddy's songs have been recorded by many artists including, George Jones, Ray Charles,
Janie Frickie, The Wilburn Brothers and over thirty recorded songs by Merle Haggard including the hits,
"Natural High," "Let's Chase Each Other Around The Room Tonight," "I Always Get Lucky With You," "A Friend in California" and "Looking For A Place To Fall Apart."
PRODUCER CREDITS:
Freddy Powers co-produced, sang, and played guitar on Willie Nelson's platinum album, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." Freddy also co-produced and played guitar on Merle Haggard's "Cry Me A River" album.
"THE COUNTRY JAZZ SINGER"
This album demonstrates the simple style of Freddy's laid back ballads to the Hot Club of Freddy. You can listen to tracks from this album over and over again and you'll always hear something new.
When this album was recorded (2000) Freddy was opening shows for Merle Haggard. He was also writing songs with and for Haggard's publishing company. The fine lead guitar work on Freddy's "Country Jazz Singer" album is by Clint Strong. When this album was recorded, Clint was only 20 years old...this is probably the best work, ever, by a great player. Dean Reynolds, a supberb bass player who understood the styles of Freddy Powers better than anyone else, compliments each track.
